ABOUT US

The Moshi DC is a high functioning instituttion that is dedicated to delivering the highest quality of care in a timely manner to all local citizens in need of medical attention. With the development of the the Community Health Management Team (CHMT) of Moshi DC, a team comprised of representatives from many health system departments, the Kilimanjaro region of Tanzania has benefitted from numerous advances in medical delivery to local communities. To do so, preparation of the Comprehensive Council Health Plan (CCHP) begining in July 2014, has allowed for the implemenation of over 136 planned intervention activities. The implementation of planned activities has improved the overall quality of healthcare services delivered. The council has been able to improve the availability of medicines, medical supplies and equipment in over 80% of surrounding health facilities. There has been any improvement in the area of reproductive and child health, high percentage of births attended at health facilities, available health centers provide basic emergency obstetric care services and increased availability of obstetric care supplies and equipment. This has contributed to the reduction of maternal mortality rate, improved immunization services as there was an increase in coverage of vaccines to children, and a decreased prevalence of mother to child transmission of HIV than in previous years. Additionally, in the area of human resource for health, there was an increase of skilled health staff, ealth workers attending various upgrading courses ,and training programs provided.

Achievements and Challenges

Moshi District Council is one of the most developed regions in Tanzania with widespread access to healthcare among most communities. On July 20, 2016 the Moshi DC DMO was named the "First Winner for outstanding performance end lasting contribution to HIV Care and Treatment and prevention of Mother to Child HIV transmission in the year 2015."In Moshi DC more than 75% of people have access to safe drinking water from various soursces such as springs, streams, rivers and wells. Out of 136 planned health intervention activities for 2015/2016, 111 (82%) have fully implemented, 30 have been partially implemented (22.4%) and 18 have not yet been implemented (25.6%). The district council currently collaborates with other developmental partenrs to continue to give access to clean drinking water to all; as well as supply electricity which is currently just above 20% of the population.

Challenges according to the lastest Comprehensive Council Health Plan (CCHP) for 2016 expected to be faced during the implementation of the CCHP are: inadequacy of obstetric care equipment, improper data collection and management at all levels, poor quality of healthcare service delivery infrastructure, low rate of Community Health Fund (CHF) members, inadequate infrastructure of the Himo Hospital OPD, inadequate number of skilled health workers or poorly motivated staff.
